Field Testing Services
GT Certification Ltd offers its latest specialist UKAS accredited Field Testing Service as an ancillary service to our nationwide sampling service, carried out by a team of dedicated, fully trained field testing site technicians. In this instance we attend sites at a client’s specific request to take a number of structurally based tests on developing sites, in order to determine the next steps forward.
CBR Plate Bearing Test
We carry out incremental plate load tests on an array of materials to prove their California Bearing Ratio (CBR) percentage. The CBR plate test is described in BS 1377: Soils for civil engineering purposes and IAN 73/06 Rev 1 (2009). CBR Testing is a penetration test for the evaluation of the load-bearing capacity of soils and aggregates used for building roads. The test is performed with site plant as kentledge, normally a 13 Tonne tracked excavator. The design/safe working load is applied to the plate in equal increments and the deformation recorded. We can issue reports within 24 hours of test completion to avoid any delays in continuing construction.
Using our own team of technicians, we carry out independent tests which are UKAS accredited to Design Manual for Roads and Bridges. Volume 7: Pavement Design and Maintenance. This is a UKAS accredited service
Vertical deformation and strength characteristics by the incremental plate loading test
We carry out incremental plate load tests on an array of materials to prove their load bearing capabilities. The incremental plate load test is described in BS 1377-9:1990 : Soils for civil engineering purposes. They are often used to prove pile and crane mats prior to the plant arriving on site to ensure safety. The test is performed with site plant as kentledge, normally a 13 Tonne tracked excavator. The design/safe working load is applied to the plate in equal increments and the deformation recorded. Reports issued within 24 hours of test completion are UKAS accredited to BS 1377-9:1990. This is a UKAS accredited service
Dynamic Cone Penetration Test
Dynamic Core Penetrometer (DCP) tests are used to obtain an indicative CBR value without the need for any site plant. We often use the DCP to measure road and pavement condition and stiffness. We also use the hand-held device to measure the strength of in-situ soil and to determine the thickness and location of underlying soil layers. We can issue reports within 24 hours of test completion to avoid delays.
Bitumin Density Testing
We can offer the following Ashphalt Testing Services:
-
Temperature Measurement (Contact & Infrared); This is a UKAS accredited service
-
Sampling (Loose Material) for Laboratory Base & Binder content, Air Voids and Core logging;
-
Diamond Coring of highways; This is a UKAS accredited service
-
Texture Depth (Sand Patch);
-
Surface Macrotexture (Glass Beads);
-
Non-Nuclear In-Situ Density - by using the latest Pavement Quality Indicator (PQI), we are able to immediately identify spots with low pavement density and trigger corrective actions leading to more uniform pavements. Test reports are issued within 24 hours of test completion to avoid delays. This is a UKAS accredited service and meets local authority requirements.
